Down from the Hills
The paintings in this show explore small town life in the Catskills, depicting the mystery and darkness as well as the beauty of rural America. As always, my paintings have moments of humour, but there is a greater seriousness in this body of work.
The content and style of these works sometimes is evocative of American regionalism, but where regionalist painters were interested in idealizing rural life, I am more drawn to the ambiguous and the psychological aspects of life far from the city.
